Questions 1 & 2 - What is your age and gender?
The people who answered my questionnaire were a fairly even mix of genders and age but tended to be slightly younger. I did have people of all ages answer however.
Question 3 - What style do you like your short films to be?
Most people liked the idea of a character driven film, this is where the isn't a lot of story elements but the characters are the main focus. This works well in a short film as you don't have a lot of time to set up a cohesive plot. Not as many people chose the concept idea, this could be because it's fairly hard to pull off. A lot of concept films tend to be animation as they have a lot more freedom with what they can make.
Question 4 - How many characters do you want in a short film?
The majority of people chose two or three characters in the film. This seems to be a popular choice as it allows for character interactions and means that it doesn't get too boring focusing on one person. On the other hand it also means that you aren't overloaded with characters who aren't developed enough over the short run time.
Question 5 - What techniques do you like in a short film?
This answer got a very even split amongst all six answers. This could because this question is very open to people's personal opinion and what techniques they like and think work well. While one person may not like having no dialogue, others may think it's really creative. Despite this, the most popular was using a mockumentary format. This allows you to use talking heads to get to know a lot about the characters in a short amount of time which is perfect for when you don't have a lot of time to spend on exposition. It also allows for the setting and lighting to be as natural as possible, which is good when you don't have a big budget for lights and sets.
Question 6 - If any, what is your favourite short film?
This question had the most diverse answers out of all the questions due its the open nature. There was a range of artistic concept films to funny animated films. A large percentage of the answers were animated shorts made by Disney or Pixar. This is because these shorts that are played before their feature length films are seen by a large amount of people and are some of the most mainstream short films.
